Practically anyone can conceal a weapon under bulky winter clothes. Concealed carry in summer presents more challenges, though. How can you effectively hide your pistol when you’re wearing shorts and a t-shirt? Do you have options that won’t make you feel overheated by lunchtime?

Plenty of people have found ways to conceal carry in summer without feeling uncomfortable. The following tips should make it easier for you to stay safe without revealing your pistol.

Carry a Smaller Gun During Summer

It’s very difficult to conceal a full-size weapon under lightweight summer clothing. Make concealment easier by carrying a smaller gun during the summer months.

Some models to consider include:

The gun that you choose to carry during the summer will depend on your body size and the types of clothing you wear. If you have a large frame, you will likely find it easier to conceal a bigger gun. If you typically wear a suit during the day, you can probably carry the same pistol that protects you during winter.

Pick a concealed carry weapon that fits your body and clothing. If you’re not sure which gun will work for you, visit your local shooting range to rent and try several models. Then, you will have a better idea of which gun to purchase as your summer carry.

Wear Loose Clothes to Conceal Your Weapon

Tight clothing will press against your holster and gun, making them visible to everyone. Wear loose clothing for better concealed carry in summer. The less your clothing squeezes against you, the harder it becomes for anyone to notice your weapon.

The length of your shirt can also influence how well you conceal your firearm. Before you leave home, check yourself in a mirror to make sure your shirt and pants cover your gun. Make sure you look at yourself from every angle.

Choose a Holster That Feels Comfortable for Concealed Carry in Summer

At Rounded, we design all of our concealed carry holsters to feel as comfortable as possible. We use fiber-reinforced steel belt clips, full-length sweat guards, and other features to keep you comfortable through long days.

You might find that an outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster feels better for you during summer. Of course, not everyone agrees. Plenty of concealed carriers find inside-the-waistband (IWB) holsters perfectly fine during summer.

We encourage you to check out our new Athletic Wear Tuckable IWB holster for summer carrying. You will have times during the summer when you don’t want to wear a belt, and this athletic wear design clips onto your waistband without requiring a belt. Now you can choose the type of holster that fits your day’s needs.

Eliminate Chafing

Rounded holsters are as comfortable as they come. Pressing any material against your skin for hours at a time, however, can cause chafing. Chafing becomes even more likely during the summer, when perspiration can get trapped between your skin and the holster.

Two things will help you control chafing during summer. First, wear breathable fabrics that help your sweat evaporate. Second, use a powder like Gold Bond to absorb sweat.

The less moisture you have on your body, the better you will feel with your concealed carry in summer.

Reduce Printing with a Holster Claw Kit

You don’t always get to control what you wear during the summer. You might not feel that it’s appropriate to wear baggy clothes to a family or work event.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you need to leave your firearm at home (as long as your employer lets you carry, of course).

holster claw kit will nearly eliminate printing that makes your gun visible to the trained eye. Our claw kit angles the grip toward your body. That way, it doesn’t press against your clothes.

Adding a claw kit to your holster will affect the way you draw your gun. Therefore, it’s a good idea to spend some time practicing before you start wearing your claw kit in public. Without practice, you might not have the draw time that you expect.

I work security at our church during summer events. I wear a snug fitting white v-neck T-shirt under my loose fitting event T-shirt. Use Alien Cloak Tuck IWB, Glock 19 with two spare mags. Minimal print and No sweaty gun at the end of the day. Thanks Arnie.

I think this was a great article. It described the balances between they various types of holster, and most of all I glad to the recommendation of carrying extra magazines. The extra magazine (at least one) is not that you would need more than one in a shoot out (that’s where the second one comes in handy) but if the magazine in your hand gun malfuctions you have at least one replacement.

Thank you for the article.

Ben, great article! I think you made the most important statement when saying that Concealment Express is not satisfied with generic holsters. I actually came back to the site and purchased two belts after first purchasing a holster that to my surprise came with a lot of useful information on how to wear it, adjust it, etc. To me, that made my decision easy when looking for an appropriate belt for concealing.

Thanks again for a great article.
